Law Dean Diaz wins Spirit of Engagement Award

Congratulations to Barry Law Dean Leticia M. Diaz for receiving the Spirit of Engagement award from i4 Business as part of the 6th Annual Women's Inspired Leadership Awards on March 11, 2021.

The awards ceremony was hosted virtually via Zoom and celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout Central Florida who are making a difference in the community. Dean Diaz was selected for the Spirit of Engagement award for her work diversifying the student body and the faculty and staff at the law school.

"This award — spirit of engagement — hopefully means that I have helped facilitate and foster an environment that sees individuals for their talents and skills while embracing each other just the way we are," said Diaz during her acceptance speech.

Diaz is one of 51²Ö¿â Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law's founding faculty and was appointed dean in 2007. During her tenure as dean, the law school has featured nationally recognized Moot Court and Trial Team programs, a growing faculty, and a multi-million dollar expansion of its campus with two new buildings. Diaz is the first Cuban-American female to hold the position of dean at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States.

Under Diaz's leadership, Barry Law School's minority student enrollment has increased substantially. Several national publications have recognized the law school for diversity, including preLaw Magazine recently giving the law school an A+ ranking in diversity in the Winter 2021 issue and identified the law school as one of the "Most Diverse Law Schools."
