Barry student leader Imani McClammy has received national recognition by being listed on the 2023 Student Voting Honor Roll created by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

A junior majoring in political science and minoring in peace studies, Ms. McClammy has joined a group of recognized for their voter registration, education, and turnout efforts ahead of the midterm elections last year.

“This year’s honorees played a crucial part in registering and empowering student voters ahead of last year’s midterm elections, resulting in historic turnout among young voters,†said Dr. Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

Ms. McClammy served on the organizing committee for Barry’s Campus Democracy Project (CDP), a nonpartisan initiative focused on civic learning and democratic engagement. The CDP facilitated her participation in promoting voter registration and get-out-the vote activities on the university’s Miami Shores campus.

The 2022 midterm elections saw one of the highest youth turnout rates for a midterm election in the past 40 years as an estimated 23% of young people aged 18 to 29 turned out to vote.

In congratulating the students who have made the honor roll, Dr. Domagal-Goldman said, “We are excited to watch these students continue to change the world.â€

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national organization that supports the efforts of higher education institutions to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement.
