  • Join us for an immersive Juneteenth celebration, titled Uhuru: Liberation through Education and Cultural Creativity June 19, 2024

    In collaboration with South Florida People of Color, community members will gather at Barry to celebrate freedom and liberation through the sharing of history, art, poetry, music, and dialogue. Participants can engage in expressive arts, indulge in soul food, and be inspired by world-class performances, including a steel drum band, dance troop, and poetry.

  • 51²Ö¿â designated a Voter Friendly Campus by NASPA and Campus Vote Project April 05, 2023

    51²Ö¿â was named a Voter Friendly Campus -- one of 258 campuses in 38 states and the District of Columbia, by Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education -- this week.

  • 51²Ö¿â appoints Scott Smith as Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation  March 16, 2023

     51²Ö¿â announced this week the appointment of Dr. Scott Smith as associate vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation. Smith will assume this role on July 1 following the retirement of current Barry Athletics Director Mike Covone in June.

Mission and Student Engagement First-Year Experience Seminar

The First-Year Experience Seminar course (ORI 100) is open to all freshmen.  The course is one credit and its purpose is to assist you in adjusting to college life while learning skills essential for academic and personal success.

Throughout the course, you will be introduced to different instructional strategies in order to get you accustomed to the many different teaching styles you will face throughout your time at Barry. Some instructional strategies include lecture, small group interaction, large group discussion, out of class readings, community interaction, and more.

Relationship of Course to University Mission

A Barry education fosters individual and communal transformation where learning leads to knowledge and truth, reflection leads to informed action, and a commitment to social justice leads to collaborative service. This course will enable you to explore the components of a liberal arts education and will also assist you to more fully develop competencies and resources in skills necessary for college and self-discovery.
