51²Ö¿â is committed to providing a safe, healthy and enjoyable learning, living and working environment

On July 1, 2016 BarryU campuses became entirely tobacco and smoke free. The 51²Ö¿â prohibits smoking, including e-cigarettes or tobacco, Vaping of tobacco, Marrijuana or any other substance than is used as inhalant,use of any kind on all university owned, operated, leased, and/or controlled properties in order to maintain a healthy and safe environment for its faculty, staff, students, and visitors.Ìý Those who choose to smoke must do so off-campus at a minimum of 25 feet away from any entrance to 51²Ö¿â.Ìý

By transitioning to aÌýsmoke-free environment across all our campuses, BarryU aims to enhance the overall health and well-being of our university community. This initiative creates a more appealing and enjoyable campus experience by eliminating smoking and tobacco products.Ìý

Policy

  • The Smoke Free Policy is enforced by anyone present on BarryU property (students, faculty, staff, visitors, etc.)ÌýÌý
  • Smoking, tobacco use, marijuana use, and use of related products is prohibited on all property owned, leased or operated by BarryU.Ìý
  • No vaping, smokingÌýtobacco and/or inhalantÌý products will be sold or advertised on the BarryU Miami Shores Campus.Ìý
  • "Smoking" is defined as (1) inhaling, exhaling, burning, carrying, or possessing any lighted type of matter or substance that contains tobacco.
  • Policy prohibits the use ofÌývapes, e-cigarettes, Hookahs, or any other paraphernalia used for recreational or prescribed inhalants. (i.e., prescribed Marijuana).
  • "Tobacco Use" is also prohibited, which includes smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco.
  • The success of this Policy relies on the thoughtfulness, consideration and cooperation of smokers and nonsmokers.
