About the Program Explore Post-Master's Certificates in Family Practice or Acute Care

The post-graduate certificates in nursing are designed for the Registered Nurse (RN) or Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who possesses a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or higher who desires to obtain a new or additional advance practice nursing specialty certification.

Students must select the preferred specialization and meet all admission criteria to be admitted into the certificate program of study. An individualized curriculum plan will be created by the program director and faculty advisor in collaboration with the student.

    Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

    The adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) provides advanced nursing care to adult patients, which includes older and elderly patients. The AGACNP manages acute, chronic and critical conditions. Acute care nurse practitioners are differentiated by the word “acute†from primary care practitioners.

    Family Nurse Practitioner

    The family practice nurse practitioner provides advanced nursing care services to patients of all ages. FNPs provide health promotion and education while caring for patients from diverse ages and backgrounds. Often care for individuals and families throughout their lifespan.

    Nurse Anesthesiology (CRNA)

    Certificate program designed for students who have already earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and wish to pursue the field of nurse anesthesiology.

Admission Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized school.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale in graduate study.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Have a valid and current national certification in an advanced nursing practice specialty (which attests to the minimum clinical hours for the specialty). If applicant is not nationally certified, certification must be achieved within one year of starting the program.
  • CV/Resume.
  • One essay with a clear statement of goals and expectations for entering the DNP program and how the student anticipates this degree will benefit the profession of nursing and his/her community.
  • One essay describing the type of clinical project the student plans to undertake in the DNP program.
  • Three letters of recommendation—one addressing clinical competence and two addressing academic ability.
  • Transcript evidence of satisfactory completion (grade B or higher) of an undergraduate or graduate nursing research course.

The College of Health and Wellness provides graduate level nursing students with tuition discounts. Dependent on the program you are enrolled in, the following discounts are applied to our standard tuition costs.

  • Master of Science in Nursing: 25% tuition scholarship
  • Post-Baccalaureate Doctorate in Nursing Practice: 30% tuition scholarship
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice (Post-Master's): $1000/per month for 24 months
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing: 20% tuition scholarship

Nursing Programs Accreditation

The College of Health and Wellness maintains accreditation for its undergraduate (BSN), master's (MSN), post-graduate certificates (ARNP), and doctoral (DNP) nursing programs through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The master's and DNP in Nurse Anesthesia programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.

51²Ö¿â is accredited by Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, specialist, and doctoral levels.
