Histotechnology

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program

About the Program Histotechnology Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Histotechnology is a structural science that is concerned with evaluation of tissues, their cellular morphology and their chemical composition. Histotechnologists work under the supervision of a pathologist preparing tissue specimens of human, animal or plant origin for diagnostic, research and teaching purposes. The profession of Histotechnology is dynamic—constantly developing new technologies and methodologies.

Histotechnologists prepare samples of human or animal tissue for examination under microscopes in order to detect and diagnose disease. They work in hospitals, research labs and medical offices.

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Histotechnology program is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in biology or related field meeting all pre-requisites. This 4+1 program prepares you for histotechnology certification with one year of additional study. Students receive intense training through a combination of lectures, hands-on laboratory experience and clinical interns.

Students completing the certificate program are eligible to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification examination.

Internships Gainful Employment Disclosures

Students who excel in this field of study have a passion for science and enjoy being part of a medical or research team. While histotechnologists help diagnosis disease, they are not patient-facing - preferring interaction with the laboratory team and highly specialized equipment.

Histotechnology Program Accreditation

Barry’s histotechnology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Completion of a NAACLS-accredited program is required for certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Please note that certification agencies may change the qualifying requirements; it is your obligation to meet those requirements.
