Clinical Laboratory Sciences include a range of occupations in which individuals have responsibility for assisting, facilitating, or complementing physicians and other specialists in diagnosis of disease and delivery of healthcare services to patients. Advances in the prevention and diagnosis of disease, in therapy and rehabilitation, and the need to cope with new health and environmental concerns have increased demands for skilled personnel in allied health fields. Barry offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students seeking to meet the growing demand in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Histotechnology and Medical Laboratory Science.

Clinical Laboratory Sciences Programs seek to prepare our students to apply scientific knowledge, while collaborating with others using verbal, written, and technological skills inherent to health care. Students graduate with the necessary tools to engage in professional practices in the clinical laboratory that adhere to the concepts of integrity, ethics and patient advocacy.

51²Ö¿â’s Master’s Degree Programs in Histotechnology (HTL) and Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) are the only graduate level programs available in the state of Florida accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department

  • Clinical Laboratory Sciences, BS

    The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Clinical Laboratory Science is available as an entry-level 4-year degree program in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Histotechnology (HTL). The degree “completion program†is for those who have earned an associate degree and certification as a medical laboratory technician, histotechnician, or other allied health technician wanting to advance their career as a health professional by earning a bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences.

  • Clinical Laboratory Sciences, MS

    The Master of Science (MS) degree in Laboratory Management, Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Histotechnology (HTL) specializations are available in an online format to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science concentration. The NAACLS accredited program trains students to enter the MLS or HTL clinical laboratory professions and qualifies them for career advancement, laboratory management, and educational careers in laboratory science.

  • Histotechnology Certificate

    The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Histotechnology program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related science concentration. The program prepares students for Histotechnology certification within one year of study.

  • Medical Laboratory Sciences, MS

    MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences offers a 2-year graduate program in the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) specialization. HyFlex format allows students to attend lectures online or in-person. 2-3 in-person weekends are required for workshops and clinical internships.

  • Histotechnology, MS

    MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences offers a 1-year graduate program in the Histotechnology (HTL) specialization. HyFlex format allows students to attend lectures online or in-person. 2-3 in-person weekends are required for workshops and clinical internships.
