Comprehensive Exam
Master’s students must register for and pass a comprehensive qualifying examination based on the required course work. Comprehensive exam fees are non-refundable/non-transferable. The first exam attempt is free; second and third attempts are each $100. To be eligible for the comprehensive exam a student must have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA for 28 semester hours with no more than 8 semester hours of “C” grades and no “F” grades and must have satisfied all provisions for admission.
A student may only sit for the comprehensive exam a maximum of three times.
A student has a maximum of 7 years from their start of the program to complete all degree requirements, including sitting for and passing the comprehensive examination.
Research students must complete a capstone project and are not required to sit for the comprehensive examination.
Passing scores on the USMLE, COMLEX, National Board Dental Exam or equivalent national standardized medical board examinations may be accepted in lieu of the comprehensive exam offered by the Biomedical Sciences MS program.
Graduation Requirements
A student must complete 34 or 35 semester hours of graduate course work with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) (with no more than 8 semester hours of “C” grades and no “F” grades), and must successfully pass the comprehensive exam in order to graduate with the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree.
A student must apply for graduation with his/her advisor by the stated deadline for each specific term. A student must then complete follow up information online in order to be approved for graduation. Failure to follow this protocol may result in a delay of the graduation date.
